Book Review: Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston

Amari and the Night Brothers by B. B. Alston follows the story of the titular Amari, a thirteen-year-old Black girl who's grown up in a neighbourhood of a low-income housing project. Her whole world was turned upside down several months ago when her brother went missing, and the authorities show little interest in finding him. Then she finds a suitcase hidden in her closet, sent there by her brother, which reveals a whole new magical world to her that she never thought possible.

My #World23 Worldbuilding Challenge Overview, Day 43-56: West Eker

Over the past two weeks, West Eker came together surprisingly well due to how closely I relate to the struggles of water. Being Dutch, it's a subject close to my heart, especially as the great flood of 1953 just passed 70 years ago on February 1st. But there are other influences of my culture in West Eker as well, such as the Saint Gosis celebration being based on Sint Maarten over here. All in all, it spoke to me on a personal level, and that's what made building it come naturally this time.
